There are 5 components of the project:
1. Annotated Bibliography (750 points)
2. Research Journal (150 points)
3. Process Paper (200 points)
4. Works Cited (200 points)
5. Final product (400 points)
The Annotated Bibliography: Consists of 15 educational/technical articles focused on your research topic. Specific guidelines for annotation must be followed. Each article is worth 50 points as follows:
5 pts. number your article in the top right corner
10 pts. write an exact bibliography entry on the back of the first page
15 pts. thoughtful comments/questions made throughout the article (min. 5)
10 pts. summary of article written on back of the article
10 pts. process comment on how the article helps with research project
Research Journal: A weekly entry that will serve as an outline and source for your process paper. Weekly entries are required (total of 15 entries) that note your progress for the week. This will be worth 150 points. This is a simple check in with me on how your project is going. You do not specifically write about any of the articles you have read. Answer questions like the following:
150 pts. 10 pts. each entry (min. 15)
Process Paper: A complete explanation of the process you went through to create your final product. You should rely heavily on your journal to write the paper. This will be worth 200 points.
100 pts. content
50 pts. grammar, mechanics, spelling, etc.
50 pts. formatting
Works Cited: A complete works cited for the entire project to be turned in with the process paper and final product. The works cited will be worth 250 points.
200 pts. 10 pts. per entry (min. 20)
50 pts. format (reverse indent, alphabetize, etc.)
Final Product: You may choose to complete a documentary, a website, a traditional research paper, or choose another product, but it must be pre-approved. You may not do a powerpoint or google slides presentation. You will be expected to present the final product in class. The project and presentation will be worth a total of 400 pts.

Choosing and printing an article:
- Make sure you consider the source.
- It must be an academic source.
- You may not use articles from search engines like About.com or from personal blogs like angelfire.
- If you are in doubt, look at the URL. If it ends in .edu, .gov, or some other trusted source, you can easily use the article.
- If it is from a published text such as a newspaper, magazine, or periodical, you may use it. The key is to search for “articles” and not just for your subject.
- The article needs to be a minimum of 1 page long and no longer than 3 pages in length.
How to annotate an article:
(50 pts. each—you are required to annotate 2 articles a week/20 total for the project)
- number the article in the top right corner of the first page. (5 pts.)
- go to www.easybib.com and configure the bibliography/works cited information and copy it EXACTLY as it appears onto the back of the first page of the article. This should be at the top of the page and labeled carefully as either Bibliography or Works Cited. (10 pts.)
- Read the article CAREFULLY and make at least 5 THOUGHTFUL comments or write questions that the article inspires in the margins as you think of them. You may want to underline or highlight the text to which your comments or questions refer. (15 pts.)
- Write a 3-5 sentence summary on the back of the article. Label it as Summary. (10 pts.)
- Write a 3-5 sentence explanation of how this article helps with your ongoing research project. Label it as Explanation. (10 pts.) Consider the questions below:
- Has this answered any of my previous questions?
- Did this article provide more questions I need to research?
- Is my project changing directions after reading this article?
- Has this answered any of my previous questions?
